“Every time you make a choice, you are turning the central part of you, the part of you that chooses, into something a little different from what it was before.  And, taking your life as a whole, with all your innumerable choices, all your life long you are slowly turning this central thing either into a Heaven creature or into a hellish creature—either into a creature that is in harmony with God, and with other creatures,   and with itself, or else into one that is in a state of war and hatred with God, and with its fellow creatures and with itself. To be the one kind of creature is Heaven: that is, it is joy, and peace, and knowledge, and power.  To be the other means madness, horror, idiocy, rage, impotence, and eternal loneliness.  Each of us at each moment is progressing to the one state or the other.”

    …. C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity [1952]

  • Getting Personal?

Posted on August 8th, 2009 dan No comments

“Far too often, young people become Christians and then search among the Church’s ranks for real people, and have a hard task finding them.  All too often, evangelicals are paper people.  If we do not preach these things, talk about them to each other, and teach them carefully from the pulpit and in the Christian classroom, we cannot expect Christians so to act.

This has always been important, but it is especially so today because we are surrounded by a world in which personality is increasingly eroded.  If we, who have become God’s children, do not show Him to be personal in our lives, then in practice we are denying His existence, and He cannot be anything but grieved.”
…. Francis A. Schaeffer, The God Who is There [1968]
